Mosaic Academy Charter School is an independently operated, public school established by contract with an authorizer, which in New Mexico is either a local school district or the Public Education Department.

It is a public school of choice, meaning that families choose one for their children to attend.

The "charter" is a contract that establishes each school's mission, curriculum, programs, students served, performance goals and methods of assessment. Public charter schools have freedom from some of the regulations required from district schools, but are still held accountable for academic results and upholding the commitments made in their charters.

As public schools, charter schools are tuition-free. They receive tax dollars, but may also subsidize with private funding. There are about 3,000 charter schools in the United States, and there are 82 located in New Mexico.

What Makes Mosaic Special?

Mosaic Academy provides multiage classrooms and a family atmosphere where all the teachers and students know each other by name. Students who struggled in a traditional public school setting are now thriving with the help of appropriate challenge, and a wholistic education, which addresses their strengths as well. Advanced students have the opportunity to move ahead when they are ready for more challenge and expand their interests, thus furthering Mosaic's mission of enriching the masterpiece in each child.
